The Zenith El Primero Range Rover Watch
Zenith has just reminded us that it’s never too late to celebrate a significant moment. Holding the throne as esteemed owners of Swiss watchmaking’s most coveted marque, Zenith has decided to collaborate with Range Rover, the world’s most famous designers of the most resilient, element-hardened 4×4, with an exciting new and, most likely, long-term partnership.
It sure is this season for superlatives – launched at the Paris Motor Show, when Land Rover, Range Rover’s beautiful cousin, released their go-anywhere discovery model, the brand-spanking new Zenith El Primero Range Rover Watch turned heads and opened wallets, captivating onlookers, as you’d expect from a high-end Special Edition Chronograph. Powered by a high-frequency El Primero 400B movement, this vintage style chronograph comes equipped with classic pushers and a seconds hand detailed to evoke the grille of their eponymous partner’s cars. The aesthetic is finished with a rubber strap coated in ivory0-toned perforated calfskin, for that earthy, natural style.
What we love most about this release is the fact it was designed to marry the different histories of both brands. In 1969, Zenith unveiled their world-beating self-winding chronograph movement, the El Primero. That same year, Land Rover released the world’s first luxurious SUV, which they called the Range Rover. Almost fifty years later, we’ve been blessed with the arrival of a Zenith watch with a ceramicised 42mm case made from aluminum. It was crafted to look like the vehicle’s chassis, as well as being honed to offer lightweight practicality.
